The GICs in India have their own agenda to address such as enhancing the value addition to the principals, delivering business impact beyond the tangible benefits and operational goals, managing the regulatory and compliance requirements in the country, building a leadership talent pipeline to the parent organizations, constantly benchmarking amongst their peers in the country and above all remaining relevant and profitable for the parent companies. It is important to note that best-in-class GICs have been successful in managing these challenges to emerge pivotal for their global businesses.
To address these unique challenges and help the growth of this sector, NASSCOM initiated the Global In-house Centers (GIC) Forum in 2008 to enable a platform for the GIC leaders in the country to achieve two objectives:
- Sharing of experiences and good practices and learning from each other to take the respective Global In-house centre to the next level of performance excellence
- Identifying areas for collective action so as to raise the competitiveness of India as an sourcing location for the industry.
- Provide inputs to NASSCOM on some of the challenges in the regulatory and compliance space such as refund of Service Tax and other direct and indirect taxation related matters.
The GIC forum was originally started amongst the members present in Hyderabad region in the year April 2007 for the business leaders to interact informally and share thoughts, ideas, issues, market trends with the idea of making each of them more effective in performing their ever changing, dynamic and demanding roles.
The GIC chapters are now established in Delhi-NCR region, Mumbai-Pune region, Bangalore and Chennai in addition to Hyderabad. Each of the Chapter has a Chairperson to drive the engagement amongst the members, to structure the common challenges to be addressed and any other local operational challenges.
